Comparing Catholicism and Islam

Did you know that Catholics and Muslims worship the same God? It’s true — both religions share the foundation of the prophets including Abraham, Jacob, Moses and David.

The primary difference between Catholics and Muslims is the role of Jesus. Catholics (and all Christians) believe that Jesus is the Son of God. Muslims consider Jesus a great prophet but not the Son of God.

Muhammad, who came after Jesus, is the primary prophet of Islam. Muslims believe the Quran is the record of God’s divine revelations to Muhammad. At the risk of oversimplifying two complex, ancient religious traditions, the chart below offers a few more similarities and differences.
