Father Kenneth Brenny, 85, died May 13 in a car accident in Morrison County. A vigil service will be held Sunday, May 17, at 7 p.m. at St. Michael Church in Buckman, with visitation from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Father%20BrennyThe Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 18, with Bishop Donald Kettler presiding. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the cathedral. Burial will be at St. Hedwig Cemetery in Holdingford at 2:30 p.m.

Father Brenny was born on Nov. 27, 1929, in Holdingford. He was the son of Charles and Agnes (Katzmarek) Brenny. He attended Holdingford public grade school and high school, St. Cloud State University and the University of Minnesota, Department of Mortuary Science. He received his seminary training at St. John’s Seminary in Collegeville. Bishop Peter Bartholome ordained Father Brenny on June 1, 1963 at St. Mary’s Cathedral. He celebrated his first Mass at St. Hedwig Church in Holdingford on June 2, 1963.

Father Brenny served in the following pastoral assignments in the Diocese of St. Cloud: associate pastor, St. Peter Church, St. Cloud, 1963 to 1967; pastor, St. Elizabeth Church, Elizabeth, 1967 to 1987; St. Michael Church, Buckman, 1991 to 1994; St. Joseph Church, Pierz, 1994 to 2000. He retired in 2000.

Father Brenny served as chaplain at the Fergus Falls State Hospital from 1967 to 1987 and in the U.S. Navy from 1987 to 1991. He also served as dean of the Fergus Falls Deanery from 1979 until 1987 and Little Falls Deanery from 2008 to 2014.

Father Brenny was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers: Stanley, Clem, Allan, Clarence (Chief), Roy, and two sisters: Eleanor Brenny and Connie Lewis.
