Open houses mark Year of Consecrated Life

Several religious communities in the Diocese of St. Cloud are opening their doors to the public on Feb. 8 as part of events celebrating the Year of Consecrated Life.

The special year announced by Pope Francis began Nov. 30 and ends Feb. 2, 2016.

The open house events include the following:
• Onamia — All are welcome from 3 to 5 p.m. Feb. 8 to meet the Crosier Fathers and Brothers, tour the priory and celebrate Vespers at Holy Cross Priory Church.

• St. Joseph — All are welcome from 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 8 to learn about the Benedictine sisters’ lives of prayer and service and tour the sacred spaces at St. Benedict’s Monastery. Those attending should meet at the main entrance of the monastery’s Gathering Space.

• Sauk Rapids — While their enclosure doors cannot be opened to the general public, the Poor Clare Sisters invite those interested to join them Feb. 8 for prayer in the St. Clare’s Monastery chapel and for a brief visit with the sisters in the parlor. The chapel is open for silent adoration throughout the day.

9-10 a.m. Slides and visiting with sisters in the parlor
10-11 a.m. Slides and visiting with sisters in the parlor
11 a.m. Midday prayer and rosary
1 p.m. Mid-afternoon prayer
1:30-2:30 p.m. Slides and visiting with sisters in the parlor
2:30-3:30 p.m. Holy Hour (at 3 p.m. Divine Mercy Chaplet sung)
4:30 p.m. Vespers (evening prayer)

• Collegeville — St. John’s Abbey will focus on celebrating the Year of Consecrated Life with its program, Sunday at the Abbey, a series of free presentations on monastic culture, spirituality and history. The next presentation is at 7 p.m. March 15 at the Abbey Chapter House, where Benedictine Father Jerome Tupa will talk about “The Path of a Monk — The Path of an Artist.”

• Little Falls — The Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls are considering ways to celebrate the Year of Consecrated Life and will announce plans at a later time.
