St. John’s Abbey releases Gregorian Chant Schola CD

Categories: Around the Diocese

The Gregorian Chant Schola of St. John’s Abbey, Collegeville, has released a compact disk recording, “Singing with Mary and the Saints,” through Milan Records.

Benedictine Father Anthony Ruff is director of the Gregorian Schola, which has 15 members — monks, and male and female undergraduate and graduate students.

This group, including the Abbey vocations director Benedictine Brother Aelred Senna, was influential in selecting composition pieces to be included on the CD.

The schola sings regularly throughout the school year at Abbey Sunday, weekday and feast day Mass times, as well as in undergraduate or graduate school liturgies and at St. Benedict’s Monastery and the College of St. Benedict, both of St. Joseph.

The album begins with the feast of the Annunciation and continues marking the saints on their individual feast days throughout the church year, ending with the feast of All Saints’ Day Nov 1.

The CD is on sale at the St. John’s Abbey gift shop and the St. John’s University bookstore.
