The Rite of Election of Catechumens and Call to Continuing Conversion of Candidates with Bishop Donald Kettler was held at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud Feb. 22.

Each year at the beginning of Lent, the bishop gathers with catechumens who are preparing to receive the sacraments of initiation — baptism, confirmation and Eucharist — at the Easter Vigil. During the liturgy, he also recognizes candidates, those who have been baptized and now seek full communion with the Catholic Church through the sacraments of confirmation and/or Eucharist.

Eighteen catechumens and 84 candidates will enter the church at the Easter Vigil.

Bishop Kettler applauds the candidates after they are presented to him. A catechist from each parish calls the names of the candidates as they come forward, are greeted by the bishop and take a place in the sanctuary. Photo by Dianne Towalski/The Visitor
